Our team began the morning gathered around Scripture, reading Acts 17:19-21 and 1 Timothy 6:3-16, and asking ourselves two honest questions: How does sharing the gospel reveal what is truly in our hearts – and in the hearts of those who hear? And how might my own idols cloud the beauty of Christ from those around me?
Our reflections didn't end there. Later, as Kaji led us through John 2, the wedding at Cana, we were reminded again that our call isn't to engineer miracles, but to be faithful – to plant seeds of the gospel with our lips and our lives. Most of these children may not understand the fullness of Christ's love on their first, second or even third time hearing it. Yet our task is simply to offer Jesus in all honesty and hope, trusting Him for the growth.
A Miracle Before Our Eyes
With those truths stirring in our hearts, we stepped into the day's ministry, believing God for what He alone could do. We had prepared for about 20 children, maybe a few more. But God, with His characteristic generosity, astonished us. Over 50 children streamed through the doors of Nisshin Christ Church – each one a living answer to prayer, each face a reminder that God delights to do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine. The room buzzed with laughter, chatter, and wide-eyed curiosity as stories of Jesus' love filled every corner.
During our music class, as we sang, danced, and looked out at a sea of Japanese children – many of whom had surely never heard the gospel before – a teammate whispered, "It's like a glimpse of Revelation 7:9-10." For a few precious moments, we tasted in part what heaven will be in full – the day when all nations will gather before the throne of the Lamb.
Later, as we shared our reflections, one teammate said, "It's unbelievable – how many of these children have never stepped into a church, never heard of Jesus. And yet here God is, bringing them in, awakening their hearts. He's clearly at work." Indeed, His ways are beyond our understanding; His hand is unmistakable, even – especially – when we cannot control the outcome.
Prayer Requests
Would you continue lifting us up before the Lord?
For every child who came to Kids Gospel: That they would feel safe, seen, and deeply loved, and that the seed of the gospel would quietly take root in their hearts, even if it's not yet visible to us.
For our team and the local church: That we would serve not in our own strength, but with humble dependence on Christ, drawing life from Him alone.
For ongoing unity, patience, and a servant-hearted, joyful spirit – even in the face of weariness or misunderstanding.
For spiritual protection over every child, volunteer, and family involved – that nothing would hinder the good news from flourishing.
For lasting fruit: That the seeds sown this week would, by God's grace, yield a harvest for His kingdom in Nagoya – fruits we may not see until eternity.
Thank you, friends, for standing with us – through your prayers, your notes of encouragement, and the ways you carry us in your hearts. Your partnership is a lifeline, not just for our team, but for every child who heard the name of Jesus today. Through your faithfulness, you are part of God's surprising grace at work in Japan.
We see more clearly now: God loves to meet us in our weakness and astonish us with more grace than we ever dared hope for.
To Him alone be all the glory.
Our Lord is so good and faithful...beyond measure and comprehension! 🙏
This update brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for giving us a glimpse of how God is pursing His people and how He is working mightily in and through Niishin Christ Church. What a privilege to stand with you and our team through prayer.
